A young girl wanders through the cathedral-like ruins of a strange city, caring for a large egg as she’s trailed by a wandering soldier who’s waiting to see what’s inside of it. Mamoru Oshii directs the story with little dialogue or explanation; instead he builds from Yoshitaka Amano’s gothic, waterlogged production design and biblical deluge.
